Water Referendum Question Finalized

Written by Peter McIntyre 107.5 KISSFM Friday, 09 May 2014 06:01
The question for a Greater Vernon referendum this fall has been finalized. Residents will be asked if they support borrowing up to 70 million dollars to pay for phase one of Master Water Plan projects. Greater Vernon Advisory Committee chair Juliette Cunningham says part of the costs are due to higher standards being imposed by Interior Health. "I think it's an opportunity for them to either support or not spending that kind of money for what many of us believe is a high quality of water," says Cunningham. The projects include $26M for extra filtration at the Duteau Creek Treatment Plant, $6.4M for raising the Aberdeen Dam by four meters, and $19.5M for separating the domestic and farm supplies in Lavington.
